Shaky trains.
Busy streets and grumpy faces.
Masses of people showing off their outfits as if they were on a catwalk.
Walking down the streets of Cambridge was just like visiting any other new city I hadn't been to before; besides the immediate feeling that we traveled back in time. On our way to the bus station, where we were supposed to meet the other exchange students we had met at the Welcome Days in Winchester, we walked past apartments my grandmother could have lived in, and cafés where Isaac Newton might have enjoyed his afternoon tea (at least I like to imagine it).
There was a constant interaction between the vintage architecture and the life and looks of modern life. Cambridge wasn't like one of those abandoned, isolated cities. It reflected both its everyday citiziens, as well as the students who are about to take their first steps into adulthood.
When Augusta and I met the other students, the idea of going vintage shopping wasn't even questionable. We had planned to split up, but ended up visiting the vintage shops together- and oh boy, did we find some cool pieces there. Visiting the vintage shops wasn't my only "first" I experienced that day: it was my first time in a real comic book shop, the first time I had fish and chips and actually the first time I acted like I was a local, when I tried to explain someone where the bus station was (I'm sure karma will tell me soon whether they got lost because of my horrible explanation skills or not).
The only thing I regret is that I hardly took any pictures. There was so much to experience, yet so much left I wanted to see. I managed to film a little bit, but next time I will definitely take my camera with me again, and try to capture what Cambridge is like to me.
Hope you enjoy this short vlog anyway, talk to you all soon! x
